9 Tips for having an Outside Wedding

Take it outside with a beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony. Some important factors to consider before the fun can begin!
Wedding Ceremony: Garden-Fresh Nuptials

Do your wedding décor ideas include green grass and blue sky? Here are the practicalities of planning an outdoor ceremony.

Start looking for your site ASAP!
Getting married outside is a romantic idea and a very popular one, too. Many resorts, state parks and even small city parks or gardens book up early so start making your inquiries as soon as you can.

Use your imagination.
Booking early may mean committing to an August wedding while you’re still in the middle of winter. So take a good long look at your wedding site before finally signing on the dotted line. Outdoor venues change dramatically with the seasons. Will your choice have all the flowers, great weather, lack of tourists that you envision?Yer kidding

Ask the representative lots of questions.
An outdoor ceremony means you are, in a sense, on public view. If you’re at a resort, privacy can be managed. But if you’re in a state park, getting that intimate ambiance may be a bit more of a challenge if you’re looking at holding your ceremony during the peak season. Ask to see areas that offer the most privacy and are off the beaten track (literally). Also ask about parking facilities. You don’t want your guests having to fight with picnickers and softball teams for parking spots.

Keep your guests’ comfort a top priority.
Everyone hopes their wedding will take place under brilliant blue skies but when you’re planning an outdoor wedding keep in mind that blue skies come with a blazing sun. Don’t keep guests sitting in the sun too long. Also make sure that they will be able to hear the ceremony. If you have a lot of guests, consider arranging their chairs in a circle with the ceremony taking place in the center so that everyone has is close to the action.

Always have a Plan B.
Every wedding planner will tell you that, if you’re planning to have any part of the wedding outside, you’ve got to have an alternative sheltered area or indoor venue just in case of bad weather.

Make it clear where the ceremony will be held.
Enclose a map to the ceremony site in your wedding invitation. Then make special signs (they can match the style and colors of your wedding theme) for guests if they’ll need to find a special country road or path.

Walk up a sturdy aisle.
Marking out the aisle with carpeting, under-laid with plywood if necessary, not only helps to delineate the ceremony space and make the area look more like a wedding, the clean, hard surface will protect the hem of your gown and make is easier to walk gracefully if you want to wear shoes with heels.

Weather-proof your decorations
Even the gentlest breeze can wreak havoc on delicate floral decorations or swags of tulle and chiffon. A professional wedding florist/decorator will know how to make sure everything, from the ribbons on a wedding canopy or altar to the flowers lining the aisle, will be sturdy enough to withstand the sun and the wind.

Stay organized with a wedding workbook
Having a workbook will keep everything in one spot so that if things do go hay-wire then you'll quickly pull out your back up plan.  Here's a link to download the San Diego Wedding Workbook which has local wedding venues perfect for outdoor weddings in San Diego. www.sandiegoweddingworkbook.com .
